WALMART PROVIDING 50,000 OFFICE WORKERS WITH AI APP 📲

🎶 From the windowwww … to the wall-Mart! 🎶

What’s up? Walmart is giving approximately 50,000 employees access to a generative AI application trained on corporate information.

How does it work? By combining Walmart’s data with a third party LLM (undisclosed), this feature, called "My Assistant" is capable of aiding employees in a variety of tasks, including condensing lengthy documents to providing support in generating fresh content.

What’s the point? The purpose of the assistant is to free workers from repetitive tasks. Although Walmart sees this implementation as just the beginning, their use of generative AI is not meant to replace human workers, and Walmart was clear about this. They stated, "GenAI can help us work faster and more efficiently, but it also has limitations: it lacks judgment, has a limited understanding of context and is only as good as the data it's trained on." This is where humans will continue to play a crucial role.

TESLA’S $300M SUPERCOMPUTER 🦾

Did you hear about the Tesla owner in jail? He was charged with battery. 🔋

What’s new? Tesla is launching one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers for AI and high-performance computing.

What’s so special about this computer? This supercomputer, called “Dojo” is powered by 10,000 Nvidia H100 compute GPUs, delivering remarkable speed and storage that proved to surpass the 4th ranked supercomputer in the world, known as Leonardo. While Dojo is intended for diverse AI applications, its exceptional power renders it suitable for tackling resource-intensive, high-performance computing (HPC) tasks as well. As a result, the introduction of this supercomputer significantly amplifies Tesla's computational prowess, expediting the training of its full self-driving (FSD) technology.

Where’s the money? Given the high demand for expensive GPUs to power this new technology, Elon Musk has announced an annual $2 billion investment in AI training from 2023 onwards, with a focus on FSD computing.

GOOGLE TESTS AI IMAGE DETECTION TOOL 🕵️‍♂️

To display the imperceptibility: The image on the left has the digital watermark, and the one on the right does not.

AI images are super fun and useful, but the malicious use of such images is a cause for concern. But don’t fear, because Google is coming to the rescue! 🦸‍♂️

What’s new? To combat the spread of misinformation and deepfake images, Google DeepMind is currently testing a digital watermark solution designed to detect images produced by AI.

How does it work? This technology, known as SynthID, operates by introducing subtle alterations to individual pixels within images, rendering watermarks invisible to human perception while remaining discernible to computers. Initially, this watermark methodology will be exclusively applicable to images generated using Google’s own image generation platform, Imagen.

What does this mean? As the landscape of AI-generation continues to advance, distinguishing between authentic images and those produced by AI becomes progressively intricate. Widely-available AI image generation tools enable swift image creation based on simple text instructions. This trend can allow for the creation of original images, with some meant to maliciously mislead the public. Google hopes their latest innovation will be a step forward towards preventing this type of use and hopes others will follow their lead.
