POPE LEO XIV CHOSE HIS NAME (PARTIALLY) BECAUSE OF AI ⛪️

About 20% of American adults describe themselves as Catholic. ✍️

What happened? The new pope, Leo XIV, said he chose his name partly because of the rise of AI.

Want the details? In a statement to Church leaders, Pope Leo XIV explained that he was inspired by Pope Leo XIII, who led the Church during the first industrial revolution. Today, he said, we’re living through a similar kind of change—this time because of AI. He believes the Church has an important role to play in making sure this new technology respects human dignity, fairness, and workers’ rights. This builds on past comments from Pope Francis, who warned that AI could be used to spread false information or harm society if left unchecked.

“In our own day, the Church offers to everyone the treasury of her social teaching in response to another industrial revolution and to developments in the field of artificial intelligence that pose new challenges for the defence of human dignity, justice and labour.”

-Pope Leo XIV

Why is this important? By connecting his name to AI, Pope Leo XIV is showing that the Church will take technology seriously and speak out about its risks and benefits. For Catholics and non-Catholics alike, this signals a powerful moral voice entering today’s biggest tech conversation.

Netflix has been making some questionable decisions on its content. Then again, I’ve seen Stranger Things. 😆

What happened? Netflix just launched a new AI-powered search tool that lets users find shows and movies by typing in natural, everyday language.

Want the details? Partnering with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Netflix has built a smarter way to search its vast library. Instead of typing in exact titles or keywords, users can ask for what they’re in the mood for—like “a light-hearted rom-com” or “a thriller that won’t keep me up all night.” The feature is currently in beta for iOS users and is expected to expand globally soon. Netflix also refreshed its TV homepage, added quicker access to key menus, and is testing a TikTok-style mobile feed with vertical video clips to help users decide what to watch.

CANDY CRUSH GETS AI UPGRADE 🍭

I got great Candy Crush advice from my doctor today. He told me I need more green beans! 🫛

What happened? The developers behind Candy Crush Saga are now using AI to help design and improve its 18,700+ puzzle levels.

Want the details? The creators of Candy Crush, game developer King, are using AI behind the scenes to speed up level creation and improve older ones. This helps keep the game fun, challenging, and fresh for players who’ve been swiping candies for years. The AI isn’t making levels all on its own, but is being used as a tool to help developers test difficulty, adjust puzzles, and ensure players don’t get bored or stuck. It also lets developers improve thousands of levels at once, which would be nearly impossible to do by hand.

Why is this significant? Mobile games like Candy Crush make up a huge chunk of the $51.3 billion U.S. gaming market. With millions of players always wanting new content, AI allows developers to keep up with demand while maintaining game quality. This is a sign of how AI is quietly reshaping game development.
