WHO WAS BEHIND THE INFAMOUS BIDEN ROBOCALL? 📞

It’s official: AI is magic! 🪄

What’s up? Steve Kramer, a former political consultant for one of President Biden’s Democratic primary opponents (Dean Phillips) admitted to commissioning the infamous AI-generated robocall that impersonated the president.

“The evening of Sunday, January 20th, 2 days before the New Hampshire primary, I sent out an automated call to 5,000 most likely to vote Democrats. Using easy to use online technology, an automated version of President Joe Biden's voice was created.”

-Steve Kramer, former political consultant behind Biden robocall

Want the details? Kramer, the political consultant behind the fake call to over 5,000 people, revealed that he orchestrated the deepfake to discourage voting for Biden in the New Hampshire primary. The incident triggered law enforcement investigations and drew widespread condemnation. Paul Carpenter, a magician from New Orleans, was hired by Kramer to create the audio, but it was confirmed by Kramer that the magician had no knowledge of how the content would be distributed and denied any malicious intent. Carpenter said he created the infamous and realistic audio for a mere $1.

What’s the aftermath? Dean Phillips, who was unaware of his consultant’s involvement in the deepfake call, expressed relief at Kramer’s confession and called for the establishment of AI guardrails to prevent malicious use, stating that the government “should already have AI guardrails in place to prevent its nefarious use.” Kramer agreed, stating, “With a mere $500 investment, anyone could replicate my intentional call … Immediate action is needed across all regulatory bodies and platforms. Even individuals acting alone can quickly and easily use AI for misleading and disruptive purposes.”

MICROSOFT STRIKES DEAL WITH MISTRAL 🤖

Mistral is having itself a big week … and it’s only Tuesday! 😳

What happened? One day after Mistral was incorporated onto Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft struck a partnership to bring the human-like AI models to the market.

Want the details? The deal involves Microsoft aiding in the market introduction of Mistral’s unique AI models. While financial specifics remain undisclosed, Microsoft will acquire a minor stake in the Paris-based company. Through this partnership, Mistral will become the second company offering commercial language models on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. This partnership signifies a push from Microsoft beyond the resources provided by their major partner, OpenAI.

“Microsoft’s trust in our model is a step forward in our journey to put frontier AI in everyone’s hands.”

-Arthur Mensch, cofounder and CEO of Mistral AI.

NEW AI-POWERED TREATMENT PLANS TO DEFEAT FOOD ALLERGIES 🍟

My friend is allergic to dairy, and it’s udderly inconvenient. 🥛

What’s new? The Food Allergy Institute is using AI to find personalized treatment plans to help patients defeat food allergies.

How does it work? By utilizing machine learning to interpret blood samples and historical patient data, the AI tailors treatment plans that help individuals build tolerance to allergens over two to three years. A doctor then reviews the final plan to ensure its accuracy. In addition to the development of these personalized treatment plans, the use of AI streamlines the sampling process, significantly reducing the time required for analysis from a typical three hours to a mere 10 minutes.

How much does it cost? The new treatment costs around $400 and is not currently covered by insurance.

“Before AI, none of this was possible. It’s really that simple. I think this is the prototype for the future of healthcare.”

-Dr. Inderpal Randhawa, leader of the Food Allergy Institute
