OPENAI TO BUILD CANCER TREATMENT ASSISTANT 🩺
In 2024, over 2 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States, and an estimated 611,720 people will die from the disease. 😔
What’s new? OpenAI has partnered with health technology company Color Health to create an AI assistant which will help doctors craft personalized cancer treatment plans.
How does this work? Color Health’s AI copilot, powered by GPT-4o, efficiently analyzes patient data, guidelines, and medical records to identify screening gaps and generate personalized diagnostic plans. This automation of pre-treatment workups can save crucial weeks or even months, significantly impacting treatment timelines since cancer mortality risk increases by 6-13% for each month of delay. In testing, doctors using the AI copilot identified four times more missing labs and tests compared to those who did not use the tool. By late 2024, Color Health aims to provide AI-generated screening plans for over 200,000 patients, enhancing early detection and timely treatment.
TIKTOK INTRODUCES AI AVATARS FOR ADS 🤖
Yesterday I had a nightmare that my TikTok account was deleted … For a second, I was really scared that I had a TikTok account. 🙃
What’s going on? TikTok has introduced generative AI avatars and stock actors for branded content and ads on its platform. This is part of TikTok Symphony, a new suite of creative AI tools.
What are the new features?
Custom Avatars: This feature enables creators to personalize their presence with multilingual AI avatars, enhancing global outreach and brand collaborations.
Stock Avatars: These are pre-built avatars created using paid actors which are licensed for commercial use. TikTok says these avatars are created with actors from a range of backgrounds, nationalities, and languages to help relate to broad audiences.
AI Dubbing: This tool facilitates content translation into 10 languages. The tool auto-detects video language, transcribing and dubbing content for broader audience engagement.
What’s the significance? TikTok recently revealed that 61% of users have made a purchase either directly on TikTok or after seeing an ad on the platform. These new AI features will give businesses a way to add a human touch to their content and take advantage of these lucrative ad opportunities. Through this approach, however, the media world will continue to be flooded with AI content.
GLOBAL STUDY FINDS PEOPLE ARE SUSPICIOUS ABOUT AI 👀
Is AI sus? … 🤨
What’s up? A new report by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism highlights global concerns over the use of AI in news production and misinformation.
What was found? The Institute’s annual Digital News Report surveyed nearly 100,000 people across 47 countries. In the U.S., 52% of respondents expressed discomfort with AI-produced news compared to 63% in the UK. Concerns about online false news content also surfaced globally, with 59% of respondents worried about AI reporting fake news. This figure was highest in South Africa and the U.S. at 81% and 72%, respectively.
What’s the significance? Despite the massive popularity of LLMs like ChatGPT, which has garnered over 180 million users, people around the world remain skeptical about information provided by AI. It will be interesting to see if this perspective shifts one way or the other over the next year.
“It was surprising to see the level of suspicion. People broadly had fears about what might happen to content reliability and trust.”
