NVIDIA’S NEW LATTE3D TEXT-TO-3D MODEL 👁️

“Can you create an object in 3D faster than you can brew a latte?” Introducing, Latte3D! ☕️

What’s new? Nvidia has unveiled Latte3D, a text-to-3D AI model which harnesses the power of generative AI to instantly translate text prompts into high-quality 3D shapes.

Want more details? Latte3D, developed by Nvidia's AI lab team in Toronto, is powered by Nvidia’s cutting-edge GPUs and trained on diverse text prompts. At the core of Latte3D’s capabilities lies its ability to swiftly transform text descriptions into intricate 3D representations, akin to a virtual 3D printer. This breakthrough eliminates the tedious task of manual 3D modeling or searching through libraries of pre-made assets. Now, creators can quickly and efficiently bring their specific ideas to life. Moreover, Latte3D’s adaptability extends beyond its initial training data, enabling customization for various applications such as landscape design and robotics.

UNITED NATIONS UNITES OVER AI 💪

I have so many friends that work for the United Nations … They all tell me they are U.N.employed. 🤷‍♂️

What happened? The United Nations General Assembly made a historic move by unanimously adopting the first global resolution on AI.

What is the resolution? Spearheaded by the United States and supported by over 120 nations including China, the resolution emphasizes the importance of safeguarding human rights, protecting personal data, and monitoring AI for potential risks. This non-binding resolution also calls for the reinforcement of privacy policies, reflecting a growing awareness of the need to address ethical concerns surrounding AI deployment.

“Today, all 193 members of the United Nations General Assembly have spoken in one voice, and together, chosen to govern artificial intelligence rather than let it govern us.”

-Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations

What’s the significance? This move is significant in the sense that it aligns the vision of countries around the globe to responsibly develop and deploy AI. However, challenges persist as individual governments grapple with the complexities of regulating AI amidst divergent interests and geopolitical tensions. Agreeing to responsible AI development is one thing, but figuring out how to do that is a whole other beast.

HOW GOOGLE AI IS USING COUGHS TO DIAGNOSE DISEASES 😷

Back in the day, you would cough to cover up a fart. After the COVID-19 pandemic, you fart to cover up a cough. 😆

What’s new? Google AI has published research on their Health Acoustic Representations (HeAR) model, a cutting-edge machine learning tool designed to detect and monitor health conditions by analyzing coughing and breathing sounds.

How does it work? Through an automated process, the research team extracted more than 300 million short sound clips of coughing, breathing, throat clearing, and other human sounds from publicly available YouTube videos. Each clip was converted into a visual representation of sound called a spectrogram. The researchers then blocked segments of the spectrograms to help the model learn to predict the missing portions. This is similar to how the large language model that underlies ChatGPT was taught to predict the next word in a sentence after being trained on examples of human text. Using this method, the researchers created a foundational model which they say can be adapted for many tasks. Notably, in testing, HeAR exhibited superior performance in COVID-19 and tuberculosis detection compared to existing models, indicating its potential for revolutionizing diagnostic processes.
