NVIDIA RELEASES AI SOUND MACHINE 🔊
Q: When do S and C sound the same?
A: When it’s necessary. 👂
What’s new? Nvidia has introduced a new AI tool called Fugatto which allows users to create and alter sounds, speech, and music from text and audio inputs.
Want the details? Short for “Foundational Generative Audio Transformer Opus 1,” Fugatto allows users to manipulate music, voices, and sounds simply by describing them with text or combining audio prompts. This tool can help users compose music, change accents, modify emotional tones, or even produce entirely new sounds—like a saxophone that meows. It’s a dream come true for creative professionals. Music producers, for instance, can use Fugatto to experiment with styles, add effects, or refine tracks. Ad agencies, educators, and game developers could also benefit, using Fugatto to personalize audio or generate dynamic soundscapes.
“We wanted to create a model that understands and generates sound like humans do … The first time it generated music from a prompt, it blew our minds.”
AI COMPANY USES AI TO SCAM SCAMMERS 📞
Q: Why couldn’t they find the hacker?
A: He ransomware. 🏃♂️
What’s new? Daisy, the AI-powered grandma created by Virgin Media O2, is taking a stand against phone scammers.
How does it work? Daisy’s mission is straightforward: keep scammers busy so they can’t target real victims. Since her debut, she’s engaged in over 1,000 conversations with fraudsters, including one that stretched an impressive 40 minutes. Daisy frustrates callers by pretending to be tech-illiterate and sharing rambling stories about her grandchildren. Behind her endearing persona lies sophisticated AI, which processes scammers’ words, generates clever responses based on real scam scenarios, and delivers them in a convincing grandma voice. To make her even more effective, Virgin Media O2 worked with former scammers and added her number to “mug lists”— databases scammers use to target potential victims.
“The newest member of our fraud-prevention team, Daisy, is turning the tables on scammers – outsmarting and outmaneuvering them at their own cruel game simply by keeping them on the line.”
Why is this significant? People have been worried about AI’s ability to make scams more effective. Big data combined with advanced AI voice capabilities have been a recipe for trouble. This was displayed during the infamous Biden robocalls, where many people thought they were receiving a call from the president, but instead it was a deepfake voice, generated with AI. Even though AI might make such scams seem more realistic, this effort from Virgin Media O2 shows how AI cuts both ways. It may have some negative effects, but it may also prove instrumental in bringing about good in those very same areas.
SAMSUNG TO DITCH GOOGLE FOR OPENAI? 📲
Q: What do you call a security guard at a Samsung store?
A: A guardian of the Galaxy. 🚀
What’s up? OpenAI is reportedly in talks with Samsung to bring its AI technology to Samsung devices.
Why is this significant? This partnership would bring ChatGPT-powered capabilities to Samsung phones and other devices. If OpenAI secures a deal with Samsung, it would challenge Google, which currently provides AI services for Samsung’s Galaxy lineup. As AI gets integrated into more mobile devices, securing these types of partnerships will be crucial to the continued dominance of these tech giants.
