What’s new? Nvidia has joined forces with AI healthcare pioneer Hippocratic AI to develop generative AI “agents” capable of surpassing human nurses in video call interactions while significantly reducing costs.

What are AI nurses? These groundbreaking “empathetic healthcare agents” leverage Nvidia’s cutting-edge AI technology and Hippocratic’s healthcare-focused LLM to establish genuine connections with patients through swift conversational responses. Tested by over 1,000 registered nurses and 100 licensed physicians, these AI nurses have proven superior to both human counterparts and rival AI models like OpenAI’s GPT-4, especially in tasks such as identifying medication impacts and detecting toxic dosages of over-the-counter drugs. Moreover, these AI agents come at a fraction of the cost (they only cost $9/hr to operate compared to an average of $39.05/hr for human nurses), offering healthcare providers a cost-effective solution amid staffing shortages. Munjal Shah, CEO of Hippocratic AI, envisions this collaboration with Nvidia as a pivotal step toward “mitigating staffing shortages while enhancing access, equity, and patient outcomes."

What’s up? Neuralink, an AI startup founded by Elon Musk, has developed a brain implant which allowed a man to play chess and post on X using only his thoughts.

What’s the story? Noland Arbaugh, the world’s first Neuralink patient, is a 29-year-old quadriplegic who sustained injuries in a “freak diving accident” eight years ago. With the help of Neuralink, he is now able to perform activities on his computer he never thought possible, such as posting on X and playing chess, all by simply thinking. As Neuralink says, “We aim to build the future of brain-computer interfaces.” The story of Arbaugh is a massive breakthrough in the brain-computer interaction space and offers incredible hope for the future.

STABILITY AI CEO STEPS DOWN 🫶

Despite its name, Stability AI has become quite unstable. 🙃

What happened? Emad Mostaque, the founder and CEO of Stability AI, has stepped down from his leadership position and board seat. His reason for doing so raises concerns about the aim of AI development.

The personal side:

Mostaque said the future of AI should be focused on decentralization, famously stating, “Not going to beat centralized AI with more centralized AI.” He also remarked, “We should have more transparent and distributed governance in AI as it becomes more and more important … The concentration of power in AI is bad for us all. I decided to step down to fix this at Stability and elsewhere.”

The business side:

This move comes amidst a series of changes within the company, including the recent loss of key talent and financial struggles, with reports indicating substantial monthly spending and unsuccessful attempts to secure new funding. Following Mostaque’s departure, Stability AI has named interim co-CEOs Shan Shan Wong and Christian Laforte.
