USE AI TO TRY ON SHOES BEFORE YOU BUY 👟
What’s new? Google is adding an AI-powered “try-on” feature for shoes, letting shoppers see how sneakers, heels, or sandals look on them directly through Google Shopping.
How does it work? When browsing shoes online, users can now click “Try it on” and upload a full-body photo. Google’s AI then digitally swaps the shoes in the image. For instance, the system can take an image of you wearing white sneakers and instantly render how you’d look in black heels, boots, or other styles. This builds on Google’s earlier rollout of AI try-ons for clothing like shirts and dresses, which debuted in the U.S. this summer.
Why should you care? The feature could change how people shop online, helping reduce returns and guesswork. It’s another step toward blending virtual reality with everyday retail—making online shopping more personal, visual, and interactive.
ROBIN WILLIAMS’ DAUGHTER SPEAKS OUT AGAINST AI VIDEOS 🫷
What’s up? Filmmaker Zelda Williams, daughter of the late Robin Williams, has urged people to stop creating and sharing AI-generated videos of her father, calling them “disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings.”
Want some context? Williams’ comments come as deepfake videos of her father and other celebrities circulate widely on TikTok and social media, often created with OpenAI’s video tool, Sora 2. These AI systems can generate realistic video and audio, mimicking famous figures without consent. Zelda Williams, who previously backed the Screen Actors Guild’s campaign against AI misuse, called such recreations “horrendous Frankensteinian monsters” that distort human creativity. Her plea highlights a growing ethical crisis in entertainment. As AI tools become more powerful, they blur the line between homage and exploitation.
“You’re not making art, you’re making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else’s throat hoping they’ll give you a little thumbs up and like it. Gross.”
RESEARCHERS USE AI IMAGING TO SPOT CHIP DEFECTS 💾
What’s new? Engineers at Purdue University and Argonne National Laboratory are developing advanced imaging and AI techniques to detect microscopic defects in semiconductor chips faster and more accurately.
How does it work? Led by Purdue’s Nikhilesh Chawla, the team is using high-resolution X-ray imaging and 3D tomography to create detailed microstructures of chips. These images help researchers trace defects back to their source in the manufacturing process. AI then analyzes the images with smart algorithms that automatically identify flaws in real time. The goal is to make chip inspection nondestructive. So instead of cutting open defective parts, manufacturers can analyze them instantly and keep production moving efficiently.
Why is this important? Even the tiniest chip defects can cause big problems, like cars losing steering or computers becoming easier to hack. This research could help manufacturers catch those flaws early, make chips more reliable, and keep everyday technology safer and running smoothly.
