MURDER VICTIM SPEAKS TO KILLER THROUGH AI MESSAGE 🤯

AI is bringing the dead back to life! (Well, kinda) 😳

What happened? For the first time in a U.S. courtroom, an AI-generated video (above) recreated a deceased victim’s voice and image to deliver a victim impact statement.

How did this work? Stacey Wales, struggling to write her statement for the man who killed her brother Christopher Pelkey in a 2021 road rage incident, decided to let AI speak in his voice instead. With help from her husband and a business partner, she used multiple AI tools to stitch together a lifelike video of Pelkey using an old photo and audio clips. The avatar, trimmed and cleaned up digitally, delivered a message of forgiveness and peace directly to the court—and the shooter.

“He doesn’t get a say. He doesn’t get a chance to speak. We can’t let that happen. We have to give him a voice.”

-Stacey Wales, sister of murder victim

GOOGLE USES AI TO COMBAT SCAMS 👾

The only way to fight AI scams? With more AI, of course. 🦾

What’s up? Google is rolling out powerful new AI tools across Chrome, Search, and Android to detect and block online scams more effectively than ever.

What are the new features?

  • AI in Google Search: Blocks 20x more scammy pages by detecting fraudulent sites and coordinated scam campaigns.

  • Gemini Nano in Chrome: On-device AI analyzes websites in real time to detect scams (even new ones) before users fall for them.

  • AI Scam Warnings for Notifications (Android): Chrome warns users when site notifications might be misleading or malicious, with easy unsubscribe options.

  • AI Scam Detection in Messages and Calls (Android): AI detects suspicious calls and texts automatically to stop scams before they escalate.

Why is this significant? Scams are growing more sophisticated, targeting users through websites, calls, and messages. Google’s AI upgrades raise the bar for digital safety, helping everyday users stay one step ahead of scammers—often before they even know there’s a threat.

APPLE PLANS TO INFUSE SAFARI WITH AI 🔎

Q: What’s worse than finding a worm in your apple?

A: Finding half a worm. 🪱

What’s going on? Apple plans to add AI-powered search options to its Safari browser, challenging Google’s search dominance.

Want some details? Testimony from Apple executive Eddy Cue revealed the company is “actively looking at” changing how search works in Safari, exploring options like ChatGPT and Perplexity AI. This shift comes amid declining Safari search volumes and rising use of AI tools. The move jeopardizes Google’s $20 billion-a-year deal to stay the default search engine on Apple devices. The news spooked investors, causing Alphabet shares to drop over 7%, wiping out around $150 billion in market value.

Fry Guy’s unsalted opinion: Classic web searching—typing in a question and scrolling through websites to find an answer—is dying, and it is dying fast. With this death comes the decline of Google search. People are increasingly turning away from Google search and over to chatbots like ChatGPT. In April alone, OpenAI saw over 4 billion web searches for ChatGPT’s search feature. As more people turn to AI, existing search engines like Google must infuse their sites with AI in every possible way to stay relevant.
