NYT WANTS ACCESS TO YOUR CHATGPT HISTORY 😳

I’m not sure what’s more embarrassing: my browser history or my calculator history. 🙃

What’s new? As part of a lawsuit over copyright infringement, the New York Times is demanding that OpenAI indefinitely retain all user data from ChatGPT and its API, including deleted chats—a request OpenAI is actively fighting in court.

Want more details? The New York Times and other plaintiffs want OpenAI to keep every piece of user-generated content forever, even if users delete it. This way, there is more evidence available to support the claims about stolen materials. OpenAI currently gives users control over their data, including tools to opt out of training and automatically delete chats within 30 days. The company believes the plaintiffs’ demand ignores industry norms and violates the trust and privacy commitments it has made to users. OpenAI has appealed the court’s order and continues to push back legally.

“We will fight any demand that compromises our users’ privacy; this is a core principle.”

-Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO

Why is this significant? If enforced, this court order could set a dangerous precedent—forcing tech companies to hold onto personal data forever, even when users want it deleted.

AMAZON IS TRAINING HUMANOID DELIVERY BOTS 🦾

Image: Agility Robotics

I ordered a chicken and an egg online. I’ll let you know which comes first … 🐣

What’s going on? Amazon is developing humanoid robots that can ride in electric vans and deliver packages to your doorstep, with real-world testing expected to begin soon.

Want some details? Amazon is nearly finished building a testing site—nicknamed a “humanoid park”—in San Francisco, where robots will train to exit Rivian electric vans and bring packages to homes. These robots will be powered by a new type of AI that can respond to natural language commands and handle complex tasks without being pre-programmed for each one. The effort builds on Amazon’s past robot experiments and includes models like Agility Robotics’ “Digit” and the $16,000 Unitree robot from China.

Why does this matter? This could signal a major shift in how packages are delivered, with AI-powered robots potentially replacing thousands of human delivery workers. If successful, the technology could make delivery faster, cheaper, and more efficient—but it undoubtedly raises questions about job displacement.

OHIO STATE WILL MAKE ALL STUDENTS LEARN AI 📚

Ohio State = National Champs of AI? 🏈

What’s new? Starting this fall, every student at Ohio State University will learn how to use AI as part of their education.

Want some details? Ohio State’s new AI Fluency Initiative will make sure students across all majors become fluent in both their subject area and the responsible use of AI. The program will start with incoming freshmen and weave AI into general education courses, major-specific classes, and a required skills seminar. Faculty are receiving guidance on academic integrity and crafting assignments that build critical thinking—like having students use AI to generate a rough draft, then revise it and reflect on the changes.

Fry Guy’s unsalted opinion: Universities across the nation are banning AI tools left and right. Rather than banning tools like ChatGPT, however, OSU is teaching students how to use them well. AI is already changing the workplace, and this move prepares students to keep up. Of course there will be roadblocks, but universities that follow this strategy will give their students a head start in nearly every career field.

“It would be a disaster for our students to have no idea how to effectively use one of the most powerful tools that humanity has ever created. AI is such a powerful tool for self-education, that we must rapidly adapt our pedagogy or be left in the dust.”

-Steven Brown, associate professor of philosophy at Ohio State
