“GODFATHER OF AI” SAYS ONLY A FEW JOBS ARE SAFE 😳
I once got fired from a deli. No matter how I sliced it, I just couldn’t cut the mustard. 🌭
What happened? The "Godfather of AI,” Geoffrey Hinton, says some jobs are much more likely to be replaced by AI than others.
What did he say? In a recent podcast interview (above), Hinton warned that AI could replace many white-collar jobs that involve routine intellectual work, such as paralegals and call center workers. He predicts that tasks once done by ten people could soon be handled by just one person because of AI assistance. However, physical jobs like plumbing may remain safe for much longer because AI still struggles with hands-on tasks. Hinton also pushed back against the idea that AI will create many new jobs, saying only highly skilled workers may be safe.
“I’d say it’s going to be a long time before it [AI] is as good at physical manipulation … So, a good bet would be to be a plumber.”
Why does this matter? AI is already starting to affect hiring, especially for new graduates and entry-level positions. Big tech companies have cut back on hiring, and even banks like Morgan Stanley are replacing employees with AI. As AI advances, many workers may need to rethink career paths that were once considered stable.
AMAZON CEO WARNS EMPLOYEES ABOUT LAYOFFS AMID AI EXPANSION 😅
We are not done scaring you about AI taking our jobs yet! 🙃
What happened? Amazon is preparing employees for layoffs as it doubles down on using AI across the company.
Want the details? In a message to employees, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy praised AI as a “once-in-a-lifetime” technology that’s already being used in nearly every part of the company, with over 1,000 AI projects underway. Amazon plans to invest $100 billion in AI this year, using it to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Jassy admitted that as AI becomes more capable, some jobs will be eliminated while new roles may open up in other areas. Since 2022, Amazon has already cut about 27,000 jobs, and recent layoffs have targeted smaller departments like books and devices. Employees are being encouraged to learn AI skills to stay relevant.
ADOBE BRINGS FIREFLY TO YOUR PHONE 📲
Q: Why are fireflies great at parties?
A: They know how to light up a room. 🪰
What happened? Adobe has launched its Firefly generative AI platform as a mobile app for iPhone and Android, bringing powerful image and video creation tools directly to users’ phones.
How does it work? The new Firefly mobile app lets users create images and videos simply by typing text descriptions. It includes Adobe’s popular Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools from Photoshop, and supports text-to-image, text-to-video, and image-to-video features. Users can also tap into third-party AI models like Google’s Imagen and Veo, OpenAI’s image tools, and others. Everything made in the app syncs automatically with Adobe’s Creative Cloud, so users can easily switch between mobile, web, and desktop projects. Some features require Firefly credits, available through Creative Cloud subscriptions or separate Firefly plans.
Why is this significant? This makes high-end AI-powered design tools more accessible and portable than ever. Designers, marketers, and casual users can now create professional-looking content anytime, anywhere, using just their phone.
