INSTAGRAM TESTS AI-GENERATED COMMENTS 💬
Is this the end of social media as we know it? 😳
What’s new? Instagram is currently testing a feature that lets users generate AI-written comments on posts.
How does this work? Instead of thinking up your own response, you can simply tap a button and choose from a list of AI-suggested replies. Meta seems to think this will make it easier to interact, boosting overall engagement. In fact, they’re even working on creating full AI versions of users that can comment and interact automatically, based on selected personality traits.
Why should you care? The idea is clear: more comments = more interaction = more people staying active on the app. But there’s a big question: doesn’t this make social media less social? If this is implemented, real conversations may get replaced by machine-generated filler, removing the human touch. Still, platforms like LinkedIn and Gmail already use similar tools, and users haven’t pushed back much. Maybe, over time, people will care less about whether the replies are real or AI-generated as long as they keep getting that quick hit of engagement.
DEEPSEEK’S BIGGEST RIVAL RELEASES NEW MODEL 🤖
Chinese tech companies are tired of DeepSeek getting all the attention. 😡
What’s new? Chinese tech giant Baidu has unveiled two new AI models: Ernie 4.5 and Ernie X1.
What are the models? Ernie 4.5 is the latest version of Baidu’s foundational AI model, first launched two years ago. Ernie has been upgraded to better understand memes, humor, and satire—what Baidu describes as having “high EQ.” The second model, Ernie X1, focuses on reasoning tasks and is said to match the performance of rival model DeepSeek R1, but at half the cost. Both Ernie 4.5 and Ernie X1 are multimodal, meaning they can handle not just text but also video, images, and audio, making them versatile for a range of applications. Looking ahead, Baidu plans to release Ernie 5 later this year, promising even more advanced capabilities.
DEEPMIND CEO EXPECTS AGI IN 5-10 YEARS 🦾
Are you still smarter than AI? 🤨
What’s up? Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, recently said he expects AGI to start emerging within the next five to ten years. For those who might not know, AGI is AI that is as smart or smarter than humans.
Want the details? While today’s AI systems are impressive—especially at specific tasks like language generation or playing complex games—they still lack many human abilities, particularly around reasoning and understanding the real world. Hassabis emphasized that current AI lacks the full range of cognitive skills humans use daily. Key challenges include teaching AI to plan, reason, and understand context in real-world situations. DeepMind and other companies are exploring ways to achieve this, including developing AI “agents” that can work together and learn from each other. Though timelines vary, many experts agree AGI is inevitable—it’s just a question of when, not if.
“I think today’s systems—they’re very passive, but there’s still a lot of things they can’t do. But I think over the next five to 10 years, a lot of those capabilities will start coming to the fore and we'll start moving towards what we call artificial general intelligence—a system that’s able to exhibit all the complicated capabilities that humans can.”
