THE “IPHONE OF AI” 📲

Remember the release of the first iPhone? Something just as significant might be on the horizon. 🌅
What’s up? Jony Ive, Apple's former chief design officer—renowned for his iconic work on the iPhone—is reportedly in talks with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to craft the "iPhone of AI.”
What is the vision? With over $1 billion in funding from Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son, the concept centers around creating a consumer device that offers a more natural and intuitive user experience when engaging with AI. Drawing inspiration from the revolutionary touchscreen technology of the original iPhone, Ive and Altman envision a product that transcends the conventional boundaries of human-AI interaction. This endeavor not only aligns with Ive's design philosophy but also addresses his longstanding concerns about smartphone-induced compulsive behavior.
What does this mean? While the project remains in its early stages, it signals a pivotal moment in the evolution of AI interfaces. While details are difficult to come by, the seriousness of these discussions suggests that we might soon witness the birth of a groundbreaking AI device that changes the way we interact with AI, much like the iPhone transformed our relationship with the mobile internet. Stay tuned for further updates as this exciting collaboration unfolds.
US GOVERNMENT “CLOSE” TO AN EXECUTIVE ORDER ABOUT AI? 📜

The United States government said they are close to an executive order about AI … again. 😴
What’s new? Joe Biden, during a meeting with the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, unveiled that The White House is gearing up to unveil a long-anticipated executive order focusing on the realm of AI.
What was the meeting about? During the meeting, presidential advisers presented various AI use cases, from predicting extreme weather due to climate change to pushing the boundaries of material science and exploring the origins of the universe. These examples underscored AI's versatility and its potential to address complex challenges across different domains.
What will be done? Biden said, “I’ve convened key experts on how to harness the power of artificial intelligence for good while protecting people from the profound risk it also presents … We can’t kid ourselves, [there is] profound risk if we don’t do it well.” What this means? Who knows!
META’S SOCIAL PLATFORMS GET AI OVERHAUL 🙌

Facebook is like a fridge. Even when you know there's nothing new going on, you still check it every 10 minutes. 😅
What’s new? Besides the new chatbots with personas which we had a story about earlier in the week, Meta's recent announcement at its Connect event showcased an overhaul of new AI tools that will be implemented on their social media platforms. The standout features include AI-driven image editing and the creation of chat stickers using text prompts, available on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
Want to know more about the new features? For photo enthusiasts, Instagram now offers "restyle" and "backdrop." With "restyle," users can input text prompts like "watercolor" or "magazine collage," and the AI tool transforms images accordingly. "Backdrop" uses user-provided text prompts to insert new AI-generated backgrounds into images. Importantly, Meta ensures transparency by marking images created with AI tools, enabling users to distinguish between synthetic and human-generated content. Additionally, Meta introduces AI-generated chat stickers using its language model, Llama 2. Users can generate unique stickers in seconds from a simple prompt (see above image), making conversations more engaging.

HAS AI REACHED SINGULARITY? CHECK OUT THE FRY METER BELOW

The Singularity Meter jumps a full percentage point: You know, a few billion dollars invested in AI here (Amazon invests in Anthropic), a few billion dollars invested there. Plus, there are hardly any AI regulations being implemented.
