INTRODUCING THE OPENAI ACADEMY 🎓

A machine learning algorithm walks into a bar. The bartender asks “What will you have?” The algorithm says “I’ll have what everyone else is having.” 🙃

What’s going on? OpenAI is launching the OpenAI Academy, a program designed to invest in developers and mission-driven organizations using AI to tackle difficult problems and drive economic growth, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

What will this look like? The Academy will provide participants with training, technical guidance, and access to $1 million in API credits to help build innovative AI applications. It also aims to foster a global network of developers for collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Through contests and partnerships with philanthropists, the Academy will support organizations driving impactful change in their communities.

Why? By empowering local talent through the Academy, OpenAI seeks to unlock AI’s transformative potential across key sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture, and finance, with a special focus on sustainable development. This initiative reflects OpenAI’s commitment to making AI accessible to diverse communities across the world, ensuring it benefits those working on the front lines of economic and social challenges.

“Developers and organizations are key to making artificial intelligence more widely accessible and enabling people around the world—regardless of where they live or what language they speak—to use the technology to solve hard problems.”

AMAZON PROVIDES SELLERS WITH AN AI ASSISTANT 🤖

Amazon has some great initiatives, but I think its delivery drones are really taking the company to new heights. ☁️

What’s new? Amazon has unveiled Project Amelia, a new AI-powered assistant designed to support seller productivity and growth.

How does it work? Built on Amazon Bedrock, Amelia provides sellers with real-time answers to sales and marketing questions, performance metrics, and actionable guidance across key areas such as sales forecasting, inventory management, and customer engagement. The assistant can address complex queries like, “What steps should I take to prepare for the holiday season?” while offering personalized responses based on each seller’s unique business. It’s like having a personalized marketing expert for your products, available 24/7. By helping with operational tasks, Project Amelia aims to reduce the time sellers spend managing tasks, allowing them to focus on growth.

CLOUDFLARE’S BIG IDEA FOR CONTENT CONTROL 👀

Q: Why does data hate swimming?

A: It always syncs. 🤿

What’s up? Cloudflare, a leading connectivity cloud company, announced the coming of AI Audit, a set of tools to help websites of any size analyze and control how their content is used. They also announced plans to launch a marketplace allowing website owners to sell AI model providers access to scrape their content.

How will this work? AI Audit provides website owners a dashboard to monitor which AI bots are crawling their content while also allowing them to block or allow specific bots. This comes in response to complaints about excessive AI scraping impacting site performance and cloud bills. According to the company, “For the first time, website and content creators will be able to quickly and easily understand how AI model providers are using their content, and then take control of whether and how the models are able to access it.” This platform will give publishers more control over when and how AI bots scrape their sites and will also democratize content licensing, allowing smaller sites to strike deals similar to large publishers. The site is set to launch early next year.

“Content creators and website owners of all sizes deserve to own and have control over their content. If they don’t, the quality of online information will deteriorate or be locked exclusively behind paywalls.”
