INTRODUCING APPLE INTELLIGENCE 🍎

An Apple a day keeps the AI away … until now! 😁

What’s up? Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) kicked off yesterday, and the company unveiled their latest AI projects and updates. This includes an official announcement of Apple Intelligence.

What is Apple Intelligence? Apple Intelligence is built into new Apple devices and powers the creation of language and images across apps like Messages, Notes, Mail, Keynote, and more. Apple Intelligence is also able to take action and carry out tasks on a user’s behalf, such as analyzing documents, organizing photos, sending messages, and more. These algorithms are personalized based on each individual's data, making the Apple experience unique to each person.

What are the updates? Some of the new Apple updates, powered by Apple Intelligence, include the following:

  • VisionOS 2: Vision Pro was released in February, and VisionOS 2 is the first major update. It will include enhanced controls, volumetric and enterprise APIs, expanded screen display, spatial video recording, and the ability to use spatial computing to sift through photos in VR which include depth.

  • AirPod updates: Updates include movement commands via head shaking and more isolated audio.

  • Apple TV updates: Instantly get information about specific scenes, enjoy smart subtitles, and access stunning new screensavers.

  • WatchOS 11: This update includes a training mode that tracks workout intensity based on age, weight, duration, and type of exercise. It also includes the ability to integrate rest days, accommodate workout tracking for injuries, and change exercise goals based on one’s schedule.

  • iPadOS 18: Updates include more responsive and seamless interactions through APIs, a “Math Notes” feature in Calculator and Notes which utilizes Apple Pencil to solve any handwritten problem when the user writes an “=” sign, and a “Smart Script” feature which allows users to recreate or refine their own handwriting, including spellcheck, erasing, copy/paste, and more. The new “Image Wand” feature can also turn sketches into professional-looking images in one tap.

  • MacOS Sequoia: Includes all iOS18 and iPadOS 18 updates and more. This update also includes iPhone (screen and audio) mirroring and interaction as a window on the Mac.

  • Siri updates: Siri is now powered by GPT-4o. This provides richer, contextual natural language understanding along with the ability to text Siri and ask about pictures, videos, and documents. Later updates will include on-screen awareness as well.

  • iOS 18: See today’s other stories (scroll down).

What does this mean for Apple? For a long time, Apple was thought of as the tech powerhouse of the world. This was reflected by their #1 global valuation. However, with the rise of GenAI, Microsoft and Nvidia have been storming past Apple (who has dropped to #3), making the company’s technology seem a bit outdated. Many think these new advancements in AI, particularly on-device AI, will bring Apple back to life and revitalize their tech dominance.

APPLE’S AI MESSAGING TRANSFORMATION 💬

I once saw someone steal from an Apple store. I was later called into court as an iWitness.

What’s new? Apple has released insights into their upcoming iOS 18, and some of the most exciting improvements are coming to Messages.

What’s coming?

  • Genmoji: Create customizable emojis from descriptions in seconds.

  • Tapback messaging: Limitless reactions to messages beyond simple laughing or emphasizing.

  • Message scheduling: Schedule messages to send to people at specific times.
