GEMINI CAN NOW REMEMBER YOUR INFORMATION 🧠

AI is learning all of your deepest, darkest secrets. 👀

What’s new? Google has introduced a memory feature for its Gemini chatbot, enabling it to remember user-specific details and use them in future conversations.

How does this work? Gemini’s memory feature lets users share information—like work habits, hobbies, pet names, or aspirations—either through a “Saved Info” page or during casual chats. Gemini then stores that information. According to Google, “This helps Gemini provide even more helpful and relevant responses, tailored precisely to your needs.” It also allows Gemini to tailor responses to users across conversations. All saved information can be reviewed, edited, or deleted at any time, giving users full control. This feature is currently available for Gemini Advanced users with a Google One AI Premium Plan. This memory capacity closely matches the “memory” feature that OpenAI rolled out a few months ago, which is available now to all users.

Why should you care? Tech companies are looking for ways to make LLMs more personalized, able to help users with repetitive tasks and gearing conversations more towards user interests and desires. By implementing memory features, these LLMs are becoming more helpful and interactive.

MISTRAL’S “CAT” GETS MAJOR UPDATES 🐱

Image: Mistral

Q: What do you call a cat who loves to bowl?

A: An alley cat. 🎳

What’s new? Mistral, a Paris-based AI startup, has announced major updates to its Le Chat (which means “the cat” in French) chatbot as it seeks to compete with large-scale models like ChatGPT and Gemini.

What are the new features?

  • Web Search with Citations: Le Chat can now browse the web and include cited sources in its responses.

  • Canvas Tool: Enables users to create and edit content like documents, presentations, mockups, and visualizations directly in Le Chat.

  • PDF and Image Analysis: Processes and summarizes large PDFs and images, including graphs and equations.

  • Automated Workflows: Supports shareable AI “agents” for automating tasks like expense report and invoice processing.

  • Image Generation: Integrates Black Forest Labs’ Flux Pro model for advanced image creation.

OPENAI LAUNCHES FREE AI TRAINING FOR TEACHERS 👩‍🏫

Q: Why didn’t the banana go to school?

A: It wasn’t peeling well! 🍌

What’s new? OpenAI has partnered with Common Sense Media to offer a free training course aimed at helping K-12 teachers understand AI and its uses in education.

How does this work? The course focuses on demystifying AI. It includes training in prompt engineering and shows educators how to leverage ChatGPT for practical applications, such as administrative tasks and lesson planning. OpenAI’s goal is to empower teachers and students with tools to use AI responsibly and effectively. The free training is available on Common Sense Media’s website.

“My goal in this role is to put AI into the hands of every student and every teacher … and also give them the skills to learn how to do it responsibly and effectively.”

-Leah Belsky, OpenAI’s GM of education

Why is this important? ChatGPT, which launched in late 2022, has seen rapid adoption but has also sparked concerns about cheating and plagiarism in schools. In education, AI has been painted in a negative light, with many schools outright banning its use in the classroom. This initiative is meant to show that while AI poses dangers to current education processes, it also provides a way to enhance education going forward. As this new technology continues to advance, it is unlikely our educational systems will be able to remain the same. We should see a dramatic shift in educational approaches in the coming years, similar to the transformation of education witnessed with the rise of the internet.
