THIS WEEK’S DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH 💎
This week’s diamond in the rough: Spotify
How is Spotify using AI? Spotify is leaning heavily into AI to personalize and improve its music experience, and it’s paying off. Tools like AI-generated playlists, the Discovery Weekly algorithm, and its new AI DJ are not just cool features—they’re driving real growth. These tools learn from user behavior to tailor music recommendations, and the more they’re used, the better they get. That loop helps Spotify understand what people want, which boosts user satisfaction and encourages more people to upgrade to premium for access to these advanced AI features.
Why is Spotify valuable? Spotify’s latest numbers show strong momentum. In Q2, premium revenue and subscribers each grew 12% from last year, while operating income jumped 53% and free cash flow rose 44%. As more users upgrade for premium AI features, revenue is growing faster than costs—a great sign for long-term profitability. With analysts projecting nearly $6 billion in free cash flow by 2029, Spotify has room to keep scaling.
