FREE GROK USERS GET PUT IN TIMEOUT 🤐

What’s up? Elon Musk’s AI company xAI has limited Grok’s image-generation features on X to paid users after backlash over the creation of explicit images.

Want the details? If you don’t know, Grok is an AI chatbot integrated into the social media platform X that can generate and edit images based on user prompts. Until recently, this included the ability to create or alter photos in ways that produced explicit content. A recent trend involved generating images of real people in minimal clothing, including children—often without consent. Following public outcry and regulatory pressure, xAI restricted these image features to paying X subscribers. When users now attempt to generate images on X without a subscription, the bot refuses and explains the restriction. The standalone Grok app, however, still allows free image generation.

Why does this matter? This whole incident validates concerns about AI misuse, consent, and online safety. It also signals that regulators are increasingly willing to intervene, pushing tech companies to tighten controls as AI tools become more powerful and widespread. But do not miss what xAI actually did: they did not get rid of the problem—they simply created more demand for their premium X subscription.

NVIDIA MAKES SELF-DRIVING CARS NOW 🚘

What’s happening? Nvidia is bringing its AI-powered DRIVE AV driving software to U.S. roads later this year, starting with the new Mercedes-Benz CLA.

How does it work? The new Mercedes-Benz CLA is the first vehicle to use the company’s new MB.OS operating system and runs on Nvidia’s DRIVE AV platform. This system uses artificial intelligence to “see” traffic, understand road conditions, and assist with steering, braking, lane changes, and city navigation, while a separate safety system constantly checks the AI’s decisions to reduce risk. The technology supports features like proactive collision avoidance, automated parking in tight spaces, and smoother driving in busy urban areas. Because the car is software-defined, Mercedes-Benz can deliver future upgrades and new features through over-the-air updates.

Why does this matter? This represents a major step toward cars that improve over time through software. For drivers, it means safer trips, less stress in cities, and vehicles that get smarter after you buy them, not outdated.

POLICE DEPARTMENT USES AI BODY CAM TO DRAFT POLICE REPORTS 👮‍♂️

What’s up? The Crestview Police Department in Florida has approved a $1.2 million contract with Axon that includes an AI tool designed to help draft police reports from body-camera footage.

How does this work? The AI analyzes body-camera footage during an incident. The system listens to audio, reviews video, and pulls out key details—such as actions taken, statements made, and timelines—to create a draft police report. Officers then review the draft, correct any mistakes, add missing context, and confirm all facts. Supervisors must still proofread and approve reports before they are submitted. According to Police Chief Stephen McCosker, the AI does not file reports on its own and is meant to assist, not replace, officers’ judgment.

Why is this important? AI-written police reports could significantly reduce paperwork and free officers to spend more time in the community. At the same time, careful human oversight is crucial to prevent errors and maintain accuracy, accountability, and public trust.
