HP INVEILS AI PERSONAL COMPUTERS AND MORE 💻

My laptop is going berserk … I have totally lost ctrl. ⌨️

What’s up? Hewlett-Packard (HP) has just released the largest-ever portfolio of “AI PCs.”

What sets the PCs apart? The new AI PCs are designed to support generative AI workloads, enhancing productivity, fostering creativity, and driving new user experiences. The new lineup includes the business-focused HP Elite PCs as well as ZBook options for mobile workstations, catering to collaborative and creative needs, respectively. These AI PCs feature an upgraded Endpoint Security Controller chip to safeguard against advanced cyberattacks. In addition to the hardware, HP has introduced the AI Creation Center, which incorporates HP’s Z by HP AI Studio software and Nvidia’s NGC libraries, creating a secure environment for data scientists to customize AI models.

What else? In collaboration with Nvidia, HP has also announced the Amplify Partner Program, set to launch on May 1st. This program includes role-based AI partner training and certification, aiming to empower HP’s business partners to capitalize on global trends, compete effectively, and achieve sustained growth.

EX-GOOGLE ENGINEER CHARGED FOR STEALING INFORMATION 👁️

My friend David was a victim of ID theft … Now we just call him Dav. 😆

What’s up? The Justice Department has charged a former Google software engineer, Linwei Ding, with four counts of federal trade secret theft which are each punishable up to 10 years in prison.

What did he do? The charges allege that Ding, a Chinese national hired by Google in 2019, stole AI trade secrets from the company and collaborated with two Chinese companies. According to an FBI search of his personal devices, Ding reportedly uploaded a total of “500 unique files of confidential information” to a personal Google Cloud account before leaving Google and accepting a chief technology officer position at a Chinese tech firm focused on training large AI models. The indictment reveals his involvement in using Google’s confidential information to seek investments for this venture. Google, vigilant about protecting its proprietary information, promptly detected the theft, leading to Ding’s resignation and subsequent legal actions.

“The theft of innovative technology and trade secrets from American companies can cost jobs and have devastating economic and national security consequences.”

-Christopher Wray, FBI Director

EA CEO IS ALL IN ON AI 🎮

“EA SPORTS … It’s in the game.” ⚽️

What’s new? Following Electronic Art’s (EA) recent layoff of 5% of its workforce, CEO Andrew Wilson announced that approximately 60% of the company’s “development processes” could be influenced by generative AI.

How is AI helping? Generative AI, a key player in the evolution of electronic art, has significantly heightened the complexity of virtual experiences. For instance, EA’s FIFA ‘23 included 12 player movement cycles which pale in comparison to the 1,200 cycles in FIFA ‘24, all crafted by generative AI.

What is EA’s vision? While acknowledging concerns about AI’s impact on employment, Wilson highlighted EA's approach, seeing AI as a tool to augment rather than replace developers. EA believes this will transform the gaming industry. As a result of utilizing generative AI, Wilson envisions a 30% increase in development efficiency over five years, a 50% growth in the player base, and a 10-20% rise in player spending.

“For creators of games, this is incredibly exciting … The ability to get to the fun faster and get to market faster is the Holy Grail for them.”

-Andrew Wilson, EA CEO
