APPLE STRUGGLES TO STOP FAKE AI NEWS 🙃
Q: What do you call a library full of fake news?
A: A lie-brary. 📚
What’s going on? Apple has announced it will release a software update to address inaccurate news alerts generated by its AI feature on the latest iPhones.
Want the details? Apple has recently started creating summaries of news stories and sending them to people via push notifications. However, several reports have highlighted misleading summaries. These updates included falsely stating that a murder suspect had shot himself, incorrectly claiming that tennis star Rafael Nadal had come out as gay, and a claim that Luke Littler won a darts championship before the event even started. The worst part is that these updates cited actual news outlets like the BBC, causing people to question the credibility of those outlets. The new update, expected in the coming weeks, will clarify when notifications are generated by its Apple Intelligence system. This will not make the news any more accurate, but will merely flag users that the news might not be correct—a “fix” that ultimately makes little progress.
Why is this significant? The flawed AI feature, introduced in December for iPhone 15 and 16 models, has caused confusion and distrust among the public towards Apple. Apple emphasized that the tool is still in beta and asked users to report issues, promising continued improvements based on feedback. But this might be a problem with AI more generally, as Google’s AI Overviews have faced the same problems, causing people to distrust any news given by AI.
“A software update in the coming weeks will further clarify when the text being displayed is summarization provided by Apple Intelligence. We encourage users to report a concern if they view an unexpected notification summary.”
NVIDIA INTRODUCES PERSONAL AI SUPERCOMPUTER 💻
Q: What do you call a computer mouse that swears a lot?
A: A cursor! 🖱️
What’s up? Nvidia has introduced Project DIGITS, a personal AI supercomputer designed to bring cutting-edge AI capabilities to researchers, data scientists, and students.
Want the details? At the heart of Project DIGITS is the new GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, providing enough power to train and run massive AI models right from a desktop. This powerful system allows users to prototype and fine-tune AI models locally before seamlessly deploying them on cloud platforms. The GB10 chip combines Nvidia’s latest GPU cores with the Grace CPU for exceptional performance with minimal energy use. Each unit comes equipped with 128GB of unified memory and up to 4TB of storage, enabling it to handle complex tasks like running 200-billion-parameter language models. Set to ship in May at a starting price of $3,000, the computer is poised to make AI development more accessible to innovators across various industries.
GOOGLE TO CREATE REAL-WORLD SIMULATION 🌎
DeepMind has ambitious plans to make massive generative models that simulate the world. I'm hiring for a new team with this mission. Come build with us!

If the real world is a simulation, then would this mean Google is creating a simulation of a simulation? 🤔
What’s new? In its quest to build AGI, Google is assembling a new team within DeepMind to develop powerful AI models that can simulate the physical world.
How will this work? Leading the initiative is Tim Brooks, who previously co-led OpenAI’s video generator project, Sora, before joining Google in October. Brooks announced the team’s formation via a post on X (above), emphasizing their goal to create expansive generative models for simulations. The team will build on Google’s Gemini (text and image analysis), Veo (video generation), and Genie (real-time 3D world generation) projects. Their mission includes developing real-time interactive tools for applications in gaming, robotics, and simulations for training environments.
