CAN AI SAVE YOUR IPHONE BATTERY? 🔋
Why isn’t the battery life on iPhones called “apple juice”? 🍎
What’s new? Apple’s upcoming iOS 19 update will include an AI-powered battery-saving feature that adjusts power usage based on how you use your iPhone.
How does this work? According to Bloomberg, the new feature will analyze data from your phone to understand your habits—like which apps you use and when—and then use machine learning to decide when to limit power-hungry features. This tool will be available on all iPhones running iOS 19, though it’s especially aimed at helping the ultra-thin iPhone 17, which is expected to have a smaller battery. The update will also add a lock screen indicator showing how long until your phone is fully charged.
Why does this matter? Battery life has long been a major concern for iPhone users, especially as phones are asked to run energy-consuming AI functions. Smarter battery management means fewer interruptions and longer use, without changing your habits.
AI PREDICTS BIOLOGICAL AGE AND CANCER OUTCOMES FROM FACE SCAN 🩺
People say vaccines work. But statistically, 9 out of 10 injections are “in vein.” 🙃
What happened? Researchers at Mass General Brigham developed an AI tool called FaceAge that can estimate a person’s biological age—and even predict cancer survival outcomes—just by analyzing a photo of their face.
How does this work? FaceAge uses deep learning to scan facial features and calculate biological age, which reflects how fast someone is aging internally as opposed to their chronological age. Trained on 58,851 photos of healthy individuals, the tool was then tested on over 6,196 cancer patients. In those cases, patients whose biological age appeared older than their actual age tended to have worse outcomes after cancer treatment. FaceAge was also tested on people in palliative care and proved more accurate at predicting life expectancy than a panel of 10 clinicians.
Why is this important? This technology could help doctors make better-informed decisions about cancer care by offering an objective read on a patient’s overall health and resilience. But researchers stress it should support—not replace—human judgment, and more studies are needed before clinical use.
“As we increasingly think of different chronic diseases as diseases of aging, it becomes even more important to be able to accurately predict an individual’s aging trajectory. I hope we can ultimately use this technology as an early detection system in a variety of applications, within a strong regulatory and ethical framework, to help save lives.”
ELTON JOHN AND DUA LIPA SEEK GOV. PROTECTION FROM AI 🎶
Let’s check on our fellow mates in the UK! 💂♀️
What happened? More than 400 British musicians, writers, and performers—including Dua Lipa and Elton John—have signed a letter urging the prime minister to update UK copyright laws to protect human-created work from being used by AI without permission.
Want the details? The letter argues that tech companies are using creative content to train AI systems without artists’ knowledge or consent. The group is backing a proposed amendment to the Data (Use and Access) Bill that would require AI developers to be transparent about when and how they use copyrighted work, paving the way for fair licensing agreements. The government has acknowledged the concern and says it’s consulting on how to balance AI training with creators’ rights.
Why is this important? AI systems rely heavily on the work of human artists, but creators risk losing control—and income—if their work is used freely. The outcome of this legislation could shape the future of copyright law, creative industries, and AI development in the UK and across the globe.
