AI AGREES TO SELL NEW CHEVY TAHOE FOR $1 πŸš—

Q: What has four wheels and flies?

A: A garbage truck. πŸš›

What happened? A new instance on X (formerly Twitter) revealed a conversation between a customer and an AI-driven chatbot for a Chevrolet dealer in Watsonville, California where the chatbot agreed to sell the customer a 2024 Chevy Tahoe for $1.

How did this happen? It’s not rare for companies to employ chatbots to aid in customer service, especially on their websites for quick answers to questions. AI is helping many of these companies provide a more seamless online experience. Chris Bakke, looking for a new car, exposed the AI-driven features of this particular chatbot to agree to sell him a new Chevy Tahoe, valued at over $56,000, for $1. He did this by manipulating the language of the AI program (see above).

What does this mean? Though this exchange was more of a comical experiment than a legally binding agreement, it raises concerns about the ability to coerce these chatbots for a variety of purposes and underscores the importance of responsible AI employment and comprehensive testing.

AI DISCOVERS FIRST NEW ANTIBIOTICS IN OVER 60 YEARS 🦠

Let this serve as your reminder to take your morning meds! πŸ’Š

What’s new? Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) utilized AI to discover new antibiotics for the first time in over 60 years.

How did it work? The researchers used transparent deep learning models to unveil a new class of antibiotics targeting drug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria. By training an expanded deep learning model with a dataset of 39,000 compounds, the researchers discovered compounds capable of effectively combating microbes with minimal harm to human cells. Screening approximately 12 million commercially available compounds, the models identified promising antibiotic candidates. In lab tests with mice, two compounds from the same class demonstrated significant efficacy against MRSA, offering hope in the battle against antibiotic-resistant infections.

Why is this significant? Along with showcasing the power of AI in drug discovery, this research also provides a framework for efficient and insightful antibiotic development, potentially changing the landscape of medicine for the future.

CAN AI PREDICT WHEN YOU WILL DIE? 😳

If you could know the time of your death, would you want to know? 🀨

What’s new? Developers in Denmark have developed Life2vec, an AI death calculator that predicts when individuals may meet their inevitable fate.

How does it work? Life2vec considers various factors, including income, education, profession, living situation, and medical records to forecast life expectancy. Notably, the model achieved a 78% accuracy rate in predicting mortality based on these lifestyle patterns of individuals between 2008 and 2016. The AI found that factors such as higher income and leadership roles tend to correlate with extended lifespans, while detrimental habits like smoking can curtail them, as might be imagined. The tool assigns codes to aspects of a person’s life, creating a unique sequence that contributes to its predictions. These results are currently limited to testing on a group aged 35-65 in Denmark, half of whom have already passed away. However, the new model offers a super interesting case study for AI analysis and forecasting. Life2vec currently remains unavailable to the public.
