SALTY STORIES OF THE WEEK 🧂
Want some seasoning? Here are the saltiest AI stories in FRY-nance from this week:
Leidos, a leading tech solutions company, is partnering with the University of Pittsburgh’s Computational Pathology and AI Center of Excellence (CPACE) to invest $10 million over five years into using AI to improve disease detection and care. The collaboration will focus first on faster diagnosis of serious illnesses like heart disease and cancer, aiming to reduce wait times and improve early treatment. (Read More)
Lace AI has raised $14 million in funding to expand its AI-driven customer service platform, which helps home service companies turn more phone calls into sales. Founded by Boris Valkov, an AI engineer who helped build Meta’s PyTorch library, Lace uses software to analyze 100% of incoming calls for missed revenue opportunities. The goal is simple: help businesses like HVAC, plumbing, and roofing services convert more leads and grow revenue. Since launching in late 2023, Lace has signed over 100 customers and claims up to 1,000% growth in annual recurring revenue. (Read More)
THIS WEEK’S DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH 💎
Q: What do you call a deer who wants to make cartoons?
A: Adobe Illustrator. 🦌
How is Adobe using AI? Adobe is proactively embracing AI across its platform. In response to growing competition from AI-powered creative tools, Adobe built its own AI model, Firefly, trained on its licensed image and video library to ensure safe commercial use. Firefly now powers smart features like Generative Fill in Photoshop and Text-to-Pattern in Illustrator, making Adobe’s tools more powerful and easier to use. These AI upgrades have helped Adobe raise prices, improve customer retention, and grow its subscription revenue—over $3.5 billion of which is already a result of new AI features.
Why is Adobe valuable? Adobe posted $21.5 billion in revenue for 2024 and expects to reach $30 billion by 2027, representing a strong 12% annual growth rate. The company also exhibits high gross margins (88%) and ongoing stock buyback. However, despite its growth potential, Adobe trades at just 17 times forward earnings, partly due to fears about AI competition. But with loyal customers, high switching costs, and smart pricing strategies, Adobe seems to have a solid trajectory.
HOW ARE THE BIG AI PLAYERS DOING?
FRY-NANCIAL TOOL OF THE WEEK 🔧
I’m so good at spending money that debt collectors are constantly congratulating me for my “outstanding payments.” 😅
What is the tool? Controol helps you focus on what you can spend, without the guilt.
How does it work?
Log your income: Every time you receive money (salary, payment, transfer), log it in the app.
Automatic Distribution: Your income is split into categories you’ve created, based on the percentages you set.
Check your categories before spending: Before buying something, check if your available balance in the relevant category.
Log your expenses: Each time you spend, record it in the app. This way, you always know what’s left in each category.
Spend without guilt, with financial clarity: Make smarter decisions, and stop improvising with your money.
