ADOBE ADDS NEW TOOL TO PROTECT CREATOR CONTENT 🎨

Image: Adobe

Q: What is Harry Potter’s favorite computer program?

A: Adobe. 🧙

What’s up? Adobe is expanding its Content Credentials platform with a new web app called “Content Authenticity,” making it easier for creators to get credit, protect their work, and identify AI-generated content.

How does this work? Acting as a centralized hub, the Content Authenticity web app brings together Adobe's existing Content Credentials, which are already integrated with Firefly AI models, Photoshop, Lightroom, and other Creative Cloud tools. By using advanced digital fingerprinting, watermarking, and cryptographic metadata, it aims to ensure that attribution tags are more difficult to remove, even if someone tries to bypass protections. The app allows users to quickly add creator details—such as name, website, and social media links—to originally created images, videos, and audio, and even opt out of having their content used in AI training, where supported.

Why should you care? Protecting the rights of human-made content and identifying AI-generated content has been a growing problem. This effort by Adobe is an attempt to do just that. However, as more tools are being used to enhance human-made content, the lines are blurring between that which is AI-generated and what is authentically human. In this sense, maybe trying to differentiate human-made content from AI is a hopeless task.

NVIDIA UNVEILS FIRST “AI TECH COMMUNITY” IN PITTSBURGH 🌆

Uber has the most bizarre business plan. It makes a profit by driving all its customers away … 🤔

What’s up? Nvidia has unveiled its first “AI Tech Community” in Pittsburgh, bringing together Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), the University of Pittsburgh, and local startups to accelerate AI innovation.

What will this look like? The Pittsburgh community will host two new joint technology centers. The CMU Center for Robotics, Autonomy, and AI will advance cutting-edge research in robotics and AI, while the University of Pittsburgh Center for AI and Intelligent Systems will focus on applying AI to health sciences. These centers will utilize Nvidia’s AI platforms, such as DGX, Omniverse, and Jetson, to drive technological progress and cultivate talent. By harnessing the city’s academic and technological strengths, the initiative aims to deliver transformative AI solutions across fields like healthcare, robotics, and beyond.

Why is this important? Big tech is taking over the world, often at the expense of local businesses and organizations. However, efforts like this one offer hope for collaborations which infuse the resources of large tech companies into local communities.

UBER TO LAUNCH AI ASSISTANT 🚙

I got fired from Uber. I guess they don’t appreciate employees who go the extra mile. 🤷‍♀️

What’s up? Uber is introducing a new AI assistant for drivers, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o.

How will this work? Expected to launch in early 2025, the chatbot will help U.S. drivers by answering both text and voice based questions. The AI assistant will be accessible from the Uber driver app’s home screen, continuously updated with new information and capable of providing personalized responses based on the driver’s location, needs, and relevant government incentives. Initially, the assistant will only answer questions about electric vehicles (EVs), like where to charge them or which one to buy, but the integration will potentially span into other use cases in the future.

What’s the point? The AI assistant is a key element of Uber’s wider climate-focused efforts. In addition to the chatbot, Uber has introduced “EV preference,” which allows riders to choose fully electric vehicles for their rides. This feature expands on the existing “Uber Green” option and is now available in over 40 cities worldwide. Uber is also launching an “EV mentorship program,” offering rewards for experienced EV drivers who provide guidance to others.
