ASHTON KUTCHER FACES BACKLASH FOR PRAISING SORA 😡

Q: Did you hear about the actor who fell through a floorboard?

A: He was just going through a stage. 🎭

What’s up? Renowned movie star and tech investor Ashton Kutcher spoke out about the amazing potential of OpenAI’s Sora, which he has been using in beta.

What did Kutcher say? Kutcher said, “I have a beta version of it (Sora), and it’s pretty amazing. You can generate any footage that you want. You can create good 10, 15-second videos that look very real.” He continued, “It still makes mistakes. It still doesn’t quite understand physics. But if you look at the generation of this that existed one year ago as compared to Sora, it’s leaps and bounds. In fact, there’s footage in it that I would say you could easily use in a major motion picture or a television show.”

What’s the response? The general public isn’t happy about Kutcher’s raving reviews of the OpenAI tech, as people are firing back at him for apparently failing to protect the authenticity of his own industry. Trolls online have said that AI video creation might be exciting for Kutcher, who has a net worth of $200M, but provides little justice for lesser-known actors who are trying to make a name for themselves in an industry being replaced by AI. After some backlash over the weekend, Kutcher responded by clarifying that he doesn’t think “AI will replace the film industry or creative arts.” But he did add that Sora is “an amazing tool that we should learn to work with to become more prolific and efficient as artists” and that “we need to be prepared and understand what’s coming.”

THE REAL STORY BEHIND CHINA’S OVERHYPED SORA EQUIVALENT 👀

GIF: Generated with Kling

Jump off the hype train for just a second … 🚂

What’s new? Kuaishou, a prominent Chinese video platform company, has unveiled Kling, a new AI video model that mirrors many features of OpenAI's Sora.

What can Kling do? Kling stands out for its ability to produce up to two-minute videos in 1080p at 30 frames per second. This model mirrors the abilities of Sora, and for that reason, it is being called a “Sora killer.”

What’s really going on? Kling is not that impressive. Most of the videos created by Kling are much more grainy and unrealistic compared to Sora demos. The hype surrounding this model is less of genuine praise for the Kling model and more of a call for OpenAI to release Sora to the public. Despite its promising capabilities, Sora remains largely unavailable to the public, focusing on safety and prevention of misuse. Unlike Sora, however, Kling is accessible via a waitlist, marking a significant difference in availability. The potential competition and hype surrounding Kling could drive OpenAI to expedite Sora’s release, which is what everyone really wants.

WHY NVIDIA PASSING APPLE IS ABOUT NVIDIA, NOT APPLE 🏆

The apple continues to fall further from the tree. 🌳

What’s going on? Nvidia has surpassed the $3 trillion valuation mark, overtaking Apple to become the world’s second most valuable company, behind Microsoft.

What does this mean for Apple? Although Apple has made significant investments into on-device AI to be integrated into iOS 18 this fall, Nvidia is the engine powering the AI surge and is reaping never-seen-before growth. As such, this move should not undermine Apple’s recent investments. As Jake Dollarhide, CEO at Longbow Asset Management, stated, “Nvidia is making money on AI right now, and companies like Apple and Meta are spending on AI.” Many people are seeing this changing of the guard as a negative for Apple, but it shouldn’t be taken that way; this is much more about Nvidia’s dominance. It’s hard to see what would slow down the AI powerhouse, and many experts believe the company will ride this wave straight to the top market valuation in the world soon.

“It may be a foregone conclusion that Nvidia will overtake Microsoft as well. There's a lot of retail money that's piling in on what they see as a straight shot up.”

-Jake Dollarhide, CEO at Longbow Asset Management
