APPLE’S SIRI-OUS PROBLEM 🚨

Code red: Siri is on the verge of death. ☠️

What’s the scoop? Apple’s ambitious plans to modernize Siri with AI are hitting roadblocks, with insiders stating that meaningful upgrades won’t happen until at least 2027. Unfortunately, this means clunky, robotic Siri isn’t going anywhere anytime soon!

Want the details? While iOS 18.5 is expected to introduce an AI-powered Siri upgrade, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that this version will run separately from the existing Siri, leading to a less-than-smooth experience. According to people in Apple’s AI department, “a true modernized conversational version of Siri”—one capable of seamlessly handling both basic commands and complex tasks—might not arrive “until iOS 20 at best in 2027.” Originally, Apple planned to merge old and new Siri models in iOS 19.4, but development is running behind schedule. Challenges include limited AI training hardware, internal leadership struggles, and employees leaving for competitors. Meanwhile, rivals like Amazon and OpenAI are advancing their own AI assistants, such as the revamped Alexa Plus and Advanced Voice for ChatGPT. As AI-powered assistants continue to evolve, Apple faces mounting pressure to deliver a Siri that can compete with modern standards of voice interaction. But for now, users may have to wait years before experiencing a truly conversational and intelligent Siri.

GOOGLE TURNS YOUR SEARCH HISTORY INTO PODCASTS 🎙️

My Google podcasts are going to feature so much information about French fries. 🍟

What’s new? Google is testing a new feature called Daily Listen, which turns your recent Search and Discover history into a short, AI-generated podcast.

How does it work? This personalized audio summary, updated daily, will appear within the Google app, giving users a quick way to stay informed about topics they’ve been exploring. Daily Listen episodes are brief—about five minutes or less—and are generated using AI, including both content selection and synthetic voice narration. This experiment is part of Google’s broader effort to integrate AI into search and information discovery. As AI-driven chatbots reshape how people find information, Google is working to keep pace with features like AI Overviews in search results. Daily Listen is another step toward a more personalized, AI-enhanced search experience. The feature is currently available only in English and is being rolled out to a limited number of users in the U.S.

OPENAI ORGANIZES “AI JAM SESSION” FOR SCIENTISTS 👨‍🔬

Q: Why did the scientist not have a doorbell?

A: He wanted to win the “no bell” prize. 🚪

What’s going on? OpenAI is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Labs to advance scientific research using AI, including the recent hosting of an “AI Jam Session.”

Want the details? OpenAI recently announced an agreement with the National Labs to deploy an advanced reasoning model to “accelerate breakthroughs in materials science, renewable energy, astrophysics, and more.” OpenAI also partnered with Los Alamos National Laboratory to “study how multimodal AI models can be used safely by scientists in laboratory settings to advance bioscientific research.” To advance this effort, OpenAI recently brought together over 1,000 scientists from nine national labs—including Oak Ridge, Berkeley, and Los Alamos— for an “AI Jam Session.” This event allowed researchers to use OpenAI’s cutting-edge AI models to tackle complex scientific challenges, from materials science to renewable energy.

Why is this important? OpenAI’s goal is to refine AI tools to better serve scientists, ensuring AI-driven discoveries remain safe and effective. By working together, scientists and AI developers might be able to transform raw data into meaningful insights, leading to real-world breakthroughs in technology, healthcare, and energy.
