AI-POWERED ALEXA IS TELLING LIES 🤫

“Alexa, bring me French fries!” 🍟

What’s going on? A new, AI-powered Alexa was supposed to launch back in October of 2024, but it has been stifled by technological roadblocks. Now, it has hit another: excessive lying.

Want the details? According to The Financial Times, one key issue Amazon’s AI-powered Alexa faces is “hallucinations,” where AI produces incorrect or misleading information. Since Alexa is widely used throughout the day, minimizing these errors is crucial to avoid misinformation. Rohit Prasad, head of Amazon’s artificial general intelligence (AGI) team, acknowledged that hallucinations remain an industry-wide issue, but emphasized his team’s focus on solving it. The new Alexa is expected to run on Anthropic’s Claude AI along with Amazon’s own Nova models, and it might also require a $10 subscription to help pay for the AI infrastructure. But there’s still no set release date. According to an insider, it’s not launching anytime soon. Apparently, there’s a lot left to do, like making sure it works “close to 100 percent of the time,” adding child safety filters, and testing how well it integrates with other apps and services.

MICROSOFT FORMS “CORE AI” TEAM 🤝

No, those jerseys aren’t real, but they should be! 🏈

What’s new? Microsoft announced the formation of a new AI-focused group called Core AI - Platform and Tools, led by former Lacework CEO Jay Parikh. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella outlined the group’s mission: “to build the end-to-end Copilot and AI stack for both our first-party and third-party customers to build and run AI apps and agents.”

Why? AI agents and platforms are being implemented by companies left and right to streamline workflows. By unifying teams working on developer platforms, AI systems, and cutting-edge tools, the Core AI group aims to build a comprehensive “Copilot” AI stack that supports everything from app creation to autonomous agents. The goal is to strengthen Microsoft’s competitive edge in the rapidly expanding AI market while ensuring that its platforms and tools remain robust, accessible, and adaptable for a wide range of customers.

“Thirty years of change is being compressed into three years!”

-Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft

QATAR AIRWAYS CREATES AI INFLUENCER FOR MARKETING ✈️

Q: Why did the plane get sent to his room?

A: Bad altitude. 🙃

What’s new? Qatar Airways has introduced Sama, the world’s first AI-powered digital crew member influencer, on Instagram.

Want the details? Developed by UneeQ, a company specializing in digital human technology, Sama offers followers an insider look at travel destinations, cabin crew life, and more. Travelers can follow her journey on Instagram at @SamaOnTheMove. While some may find this AI-driven marketing strategy exciting, others may be surprised to learn that Sama isn’t a real person.

“At Qatar Airways, we continuously strive to innovate and redefine the travel experience for our customers. We also want to meaningfully engage with audiences where they are, and this is increasingly in the digital space. Sama’s Instagram debut is testament to our commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology to connect, inspire and assist travelers, complementing the world-leading, personalized service we are known for.”

-Babar Rahman, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing & Corporate Communications at Qatar Airways

Why is this significant? As more companies embrace the digital landscape, we can expect more AI marketing figures to emerge, offering a fun and interesting way to gain awareness of brands and products. After all, over 82% of companies are either using or exploring the use of AI in marketing. This may be one effective way to use it.
