AI VERSION OF AL MICHAELS TO RECAP OLYMPIC EVENTS 🏓

I heard it will be very hot during the Olympic Games. Good thing they will have a lot of fans. 🪭

What’s new? An AI voice of legendary sportscaster Al Michaels will provide daily, personalized recaps of the Paris Olympics on Peacock.

How will this work? Trained on Michaels’ NBC appearances, this AI voice experience was crafted by Peacock’s in-house team. Setting up NBC’s “Your Daily Olympic Recap” in the Peacock app is straightforward. Users provide their name (the AI voice can greet most people by their first name) and choose up to three favorite sports and two types of highlights, such as “Top Competition” or “Viral & Trending Moments.” Each morning, users will then receive a personalized rundown narrated by the AI version of Al Michaels.

“When I was approached about this, I was skeptical but obviously curious. Then I saw a demonstration detailing what they had in mind. I said, ‘I’m in.’”

-Al Michaels

What should you expect? Users should expect a combination of awesome coverage littered with a few mishaps. To safeguard against AI errors, NBC ensures all content will undergo review by NBC editors for quality and accuracy. However, there’s still a chance of occasional AI mishaps, like misidentifying athletes or events. Not to mention, despite an impressive demo (above), it will be a challenge to generate millions of unique clips during the Games which cover numerous sports and global athletes.

TOYS-”R”-US RELEASES SORA-MADE BRAND FILM 🧸

Yes, Toys-”R”-Us still exists. 😅

What’s new? Toys-”R”-Us released the first-ever brand ad created with AI.

What is the video? The full 1 minute, 6 second video can be viewed on the Toys-”R”-Us website. The video, created using OpenAI’s Sora, depicts a young boy representing company founder Charles Lazarus. In the video, he dozes off in his father’s bike shop and enters a dream world filled with all kinds of toys, including store mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe. The video ends by showing a photograph of the real Charles Lazarus next to a Geoffrey mascot.

“Imagine the excitement of creating a young Charles Lazarus, the founder of Toys“R”Us, and envisioning his dreams for our iconic brand and beloved mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe in the early 1930s.”

-Toys-”R”-Us

Why is this significant? This AI-created ad is the first of its kind in major business, and as a result ushers in a new way of leveraging AI in advertising. In the future, we can expect to see AI video creation used more and more by business to take advantage of cheaper and more creative advertising opportunities.

“AI” GOES UNMENTIONED IN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE 🇺🇸

In case you didn’t know, Joe Biden and Donald Trump engaged in a debate. 🗣️

What’s up? In the U.S. presidential debate on Thursday night, the word “AI” was not mentioned once.

Why is this significant? Experts say AI poses an “extinction-level threat to humanity.” This is mostly due to the rapidly developing capabilities of AI, which could soon surpass human intelligence. For instance, our world is flooding with AI-focused lawsuits, deepfake content, and AI weaponization. Despite these concerns, the U.S. Government has done little to nothing to address the challenges being raised by AI. The White House has continually stated that protecting safe AI development is a top priority, but the fact that AI was not discussed even as a side comment in the recent presidential debate indicates otherwise.
