BRYSON DECHAMBEAU TEAMS UP WITH GOOGLE FOR AI GOLF TOOL ⛳️

What’s up? Golf star Bryson DeChambeau has teamed up with Google Cloud to expand the use of AI for analyzing and improving people’s golf swings.

How does it work? DeChambeau, known for his scientific approach to the game, has used AI tools to uncover micro-adjustments in his biomechanics that even top coaches and traditional video analysis couldn’t detect. By training computer vision models on footage of his best swings, AI has helped him spot subtle deviations in real time and offer clear, practical feedback. DeChambeau and Google are aiming to put this technology into the hands of the public, giving golfers instant, on-course insights into their performance.

Why is this important? This could change how athletes—not just professionals, but weekend players too—understand and improve their skills. Just as fitness trackers make personal health data accessible, AI coaching could democratize high-level sports insights, helping anyone make small, precise changes that add up to big improvements. Everyone might soon have a professional golf coach at their fingertips.

“Eventually, you’ll be able to talk to your AI assistant 24/7—any time you are thinking about your swing, any time you’re playing poorly, or playing well, you’ll be able to check in with that personalized assistant. The AI will help steer you closer and closer to your optimal performance.”

-Bryson DeChambeau, professional golfer

OAKLAND BALLERS LET AI MANAGE A BASEBALL GAME 🧢

What happened? The Oakland Ballers, an independent baseball team, let AI manage a full game—making pitching changes, lineup decisions, and substitutions in real time.

How did this work? Partnering with AI company Distillery, the Ballers trained OpenAI’s ChatGPT on more than a century of baseball data, along with the team’s own past games and player statistics. The goal was to approximate the decision-making style of their manager, Aaron Miles. During the experimental game, the AI mirrored almost every choice Miles would have made, from bullpen calls to pinch hitters. The only moment of human override came when Miles swapped out a sick catcher—something the AI couldn’t anticipate.

Why is this significant? This experiment showed both the promise and the problems of using AI in sports. Baseball is slow and full of stats, which makes it a natural fit for AI decisions. But many fans worry that relying on AI takes away the human judgment and traditions that make the game special. Their reaction reflects a bigger question: when does innovation enhance the game, and when does it undermine what makes it meaningful?

SEAFOOD, DELIVERED BY AI 🦞

What’s new? Red Lobster and Captain D’s are implementing AI to take customer orders—Red Lobster over the phone and Captain D’s in the drive-thru.

How will this work? Red Lobster, still regaining stability after bankruptcy, is rolling out SoundHound’s voice AI across 500 restaurants to answer calls, take orders, and respond to questions. Customers can still ask for a human, but the system ensures missed calls don’t hurt sales. Meanwhile, Captain D’s is deploying an AI system called Presto Phoenix in 525 drive thrus, where it not only takes orders but also promotes add-ons and loyalty signups, aiming to transform a simple order into a personalized marketing opportunity.

Why is this significant? If successful, voice AI could reshape how customers interact with restaurants—faster orders, more upsells, and fewer missed sales. It will also allow human workers to focus more on customer service. While critics are concerned about AI replacing fast food jobs, these restaurants have been suffering from labor shortages. Perhaps AI can help fill these needs.
