What’s new? The Oscars have updated their rules so AI-generated actors and AI-written scripts can no longer qualify for Academy Awards.

Want the details? The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said acting awards will only go to performances done by real human actors who are officially credited in the film and gave their consent. It also said screenplays must be written by humans to qualify. On top of that, the Academy can ask for more details about how AI was used in a movie and whether the work was truly created by people. These changes come as AI tools become more common in filmmaking and raise new questions about authorship and creativity.

Why is this significant? Hollywood is trying to draw a clear line between human art and machine-generated content. As AI becomes more powerful, many actors and writers worry about being replaced or copied. These new rules protect human creative work and make it clear that the Oscars still want to honor real people behind films. However, enforcing these rules may be more difficult than it first appears. Questions remain about how much AI is allowed to be used as a tool before it’s no longer considered human-led.

What’s new? xAI has launched Custom Voices, a new feature that lets users clone their own voice from a short audio sample and use it right away in Grok’s Text-to-Speech and Voice Agent APIs.

How does it work? To create a custom voice, a user records about a minute of natural speech in the xAI console. The system then checks that the person is really the voice owner by having them read a verification phrase aloud and comparing that clip to the full recording. Once approved, the voice can be used anywhere xAI’s built-in voices work, including real-time voice agents. xAI also launched a new Voice Library, which gives people one place to browse, preview, and manage both custom and built-in voices. The library now includes more than 80 built-in voices across 28 languages.

Why is this important? This makes voice AI more personal and useful, while xAI’s verification steps help prevent people from cloning someone else’s voice.

🚨⭐️ Don’t let AI rot your brain.

In the AI era, the people who win won’t just use the tools — they’ll understand what the tools are doing to them.
