1 AI PROMPT = 9 SECONDS OF TV 💬

What’s new? Google has released a new methodology to measure the energy, water, and carbon footprint of its AI models, showcasing major efficiency gains in how much energy Gemini uses per text prompt.

Want the details? AI requires massive amounts of computing power, which in turn drives up energy demand. To tackle this, Google has been investing in resilient energy infrastructure, cleaner power sources, and efficiency improvements at every layer—from custom hardware to data center operations. The company’s new measurement system gives a detailed view of AI’s environmental footprint, tracking energy, water use, and emissions. Results already show progress: over the past year, the energy and carbon impact per Gemini text prompt dropped by 33x and 44x, respectively, with each prompt now using about the same energy as watching nine seconds of TV.

Why does this matter? As AI adoption accelerates, understanding and minimizing its environmental cost is crucial. By making AI more efficient and transparent, Google is helping ensure the technology grows sustainably, balancing innovation with environmental responsibility.

DOES AI DESERVE RESPECT? 🤖

What’s new? Microsoft’s head of AI, Mustafa Suleyman, has released a blog post publicly criticizing researchers exploring the idea of “AI welfare” and “conscious AI,” calling it premature and dangerous.

Want some context? The debate centers on whether advanced AI models could one day have subjective experiences, like feelings or consciousness. Some researchers, including those at Anthropic, suggest that if AI ever does become conscious, society would need to consider what rights it deserves—similar to how we think about animal welfare. But Suleyman argues this line of thinking only fuels confusion. In a blog post, he warned that entertaining the possibility of conscious AI risks encouraging unhealthy attachments to chatbots and adding yet another layer of polarization in already divided societies.

“We should build AI for people; not to be a person.”

-Mustafa Suleyman, head of AI at Microsoft

“HEY SIRI, MEET GEMINI” 🤝

What’s new? Apple is exploring a deal with Google to use its Gemini AI model to power the next generation of Siri, with no final decision yet made.

Want the details? According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is testing multiple approaches to reinvent Siri ahead of its planned 2026 relaunch. Internally, the company is running a “bake-off” between its own AI models and outside contenders like Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude. Gemini, which already powers AI features on Android and Samsung devices, is reportedly being trained to run directly on Apple’s servers. At the same time, Apple is testing its most ambitious homegrown system yet: a trillion-parameter AI model, a massive leap from the 150 billion-parameter models it currently uses. The goal is to decide which approach can reliably deliver the upgraded Siri experience.

FUN FACT: A “parameter” is just one tiny piece of information an AI uses to learn and make decisions. Think of it like a fry in a giant basket—the more fries you’ve got, the more flavor you can serve. 🍟

Why does this matter? For everyday users, this means Siri could finally catch up to—and maybe surpass—other AI assistants. Whoever wins Apple’s “bake-off” could determine how millions of iPhone owners interact with AI daily.

Learn from this investor’s $100m mistake

In 2010, a Grammy-winning artist passed on investing $200K in an emerging real estate disruptor. That stake could be worth $100+ million today.

One year later, another real estate disruptor, Zillow, went public. This time, everyday investors had regrets, missing pre-IPO gains.

Now, a new real estate innovator, Pacaso – founded by a former Zillow exec – is disrupting a $1.3T market. And unlike the others, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company.

Pacaso’s co-ownership model has generated $1B+ in luxury home sales and service fees, earned $110M+ in gross profits to date, and received backing from the same VCs behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.
